Thailand has presented 200,000 US dollars (around six million baht) to Her Excellency Jocelyn S. Batun Garcia, Ambassador of the Philippines to Thailand, as part of its contribution to the Government of the Philippines for disaster relief following the devastation caused by typhoon Haiyan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul represented Thailand in presenting the relief assistance on 19 November 2013.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as for 19 November 2013, Thailand’s assistance to the Philippines is as follows:
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Thailand and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm have donated food and other aid items for disaster relief in the form of 7,000 disaster relief packages;
Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali has donated 5,000 relief packages and 100 mobile tent units, along with milk formula for infants, 500,000 sachets of water purification solution and a mobile water filtering unit;
A government appeal through NBT (Television of Thailand Channel 11) on 11 November 2013 has collected 83 million baht (2.7 million US dollars) in financial donations from the Thai public;
The Thai Red Cross has made an initial donation of 100,000 US dollars;
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a donation of 200,000 US dollars;
The Stock Exchange of Thailand has made a donation of 1 million baht (33,000 US dollars);
Financial donations of 22 million baht (73,000 US dollars) through Channel 3 Television news.
Furthermore, on 19 November 2013 at 08.00 hr, two Royal Thai Air Force C-130 aircraft began airlift operations to bring disaster relief to the Philippines which included:
1,000 disaster relief packages from HRH the Crown Prince and HRH Princess Srirasm;
1,000 disaster relief packages from HRH Princess Soamsawali;
Basic medicines from the Ministry of Public Health.
