Tension is high along the West Pokot and Turkana County border after three herders were killed and another injured in a raid.
But unlike other attacks, nothing was stolen when the raiders struck at Salmach area, Pokot Central district.
The deceased were grazing their animals when a group of seven armed invaders ambushed them, killing three of the herders and injuring one.
Pokot Central police boss Nicholas Musila said they are investigating the motive of the attack.
“We have not established why the attack took place as none of the animals the dead were grazing was stolen ,” said Mr Musila.
The police boss said they have deployed police officers to carry out patrols on the border to avoid retaliatory attacks.
“Enough officers have been sent to the West Pokot- Turkana counties’ borders to prevent any attacks ,” he said.
West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin condemned the attacks saying it is disappointing to witness such inhumane killings when the two communities recently held talks where they agreed to peacefully resolve any feud between them.
“These attacks are hurting our peaceful co-existence. We cannot realise our development agenda in such an insecure environment,” said Mr Kachapin.
The county boss said they will convene a meeting that will include all leaders from the two counties to find a lasting solution to the border animosity between communities living in the region.
