Highlights

• The total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 20 camps in 10 provinces remained the same as announced the day before which is slightly over 200,000.

• The number of Syrians living in the makeshift camp in the park of Kilis city center is increasing and it is estimated to be up to 4000 by the national NGOs providing daily hot meal. Reportedly a meeting will be held in Kilis with the participation of local officials as well as the NGOs to discuss what can be done. However, it was reported by some of the NGOs that the authorities are considering the option to move these people to out of Kilis to a reception center where big tents will be put up to accommodate them until they are transferred to camps.

• Local officials informed that about 1,500 Syrians who were waiting in front of the Nizip container site have been transferred to Mardin Midyat tent site but on arrival only 302 persons (about 61 families) agreed to stay in the tent camp and the others refused to stay returned to Gaziantep. Reportedly they insisted to be placed in a container site.

• It was reported by various sources including local officials that due to fights in various locations both between the Syrian Gov. forces and opposition, the movements of the people to the border have intensified Reportedly at Akacakale border the authorities are admitting some 100-150 persons per day. It was reported that some 3,500 people are currently located at Jarablus border, the nearby IDP camp and town. Some 300 Syrians were admitted on Wednesday 19 June from Jarubulus and transferred to the Malatya Container site.

• A UNHCR Field Team met with the Mayor of Gaziantep on 20 June, who informed the team that more than 1,000 Syrian children are receiving education according to the Syrian curriculum, and three soup kitchens are providing daily hot meals. The Mayor informed UNHCR that the Gaziantep Municipality hopes to initiate other assistance projects such as clothes distribution.
