I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES
WFP’s immediate response emergency operation (IR-EMOP) started on 1 June to 1) complement the response provided through the existing protracted relief and recovery operation (PRRO) and 2) scale-up WFP’s life-saving assistance to the affected population of the March 2013 crisis, whose access to food deteriorated sharply and were not yet covered by the ongoing operation. The operation plans to support 20,100 crisis-affected people, including some 17,800 vulnerable people from CAR and 2,250 refugees from Darfur who will be provided with targeted food distributions for three months.
WFP, FAO and NGOs carried out a rapid Emergency Food Security Assessment (EFSA) to assess the needs following the March 2013 crisis. The results of the EFSA were presented to the Food Security Cluster and Cooperating Partners in the field on 12 June. The report will be finalized and shared to a wider audience shortly.
From June to August, WFP plans to assist 127,124 beneficiaries mainly through targeted food distributions, seed protection rations and assistance to refugees. The number of planned beneficiaries may increase depending on the recommendations of the EFSA. Targeted-areas include Bangui, Bambari, Batalimo, Batangafo-Kabo, Kabo, Zemio and Sibut.
