(Jan, 27, 2014) The International Committee of the Red Cross, the ICRC, has reconnected more than 650 people with their families.
The family members were separated as they fled the recent fighting.
ICRC spokesperson Jacob Kurtzer says the relatives are identified in protection sites where they had fled for safety and are reconnected with family members through telephone calls and text messages.
Kurtzer says out of more than 1,000 calls placed 650 people have been reconnected with their families.
“So far we have made 1,200 phone calls and a little bit over 650 people have had the opportunity to connect, so it is a positive outcome. We’ve also done much fewer of the Red Cross messages. But this means that for the six hundred individuals or so they have the opportunity to hear form their loved ones that they lost track with. So they could have the peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are currently safe even if they are in different location.”
