The Karo regency administration in North Sumatra has promised to help restore houses and farmland that have been severely damaged by ash from the continuing eruptions of Mount Sinabung.

The regency’s emergency agency head, Saberina, said compensation would be paid after a verification process had been completed.

“Residents do not need to worry as the administration is committed to paying the costs for the restoration of the houses and farmland,” Saberina, who is also the regency’s second economic assistant, said on Tuesday.

She said the regency was counting the number of damaged houses and farmland, adding that the total amount of compensation had not yet been determined. Dozens of houses in Kuta Rakyat village were badly damaged during the volcano’s latest eruptions on Friday.
