Highlights
Fighting erupted in Juba on 15 December and has spread to other states in the country. the Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is reporting about 121,600 people have been displaced, 63,000 of which are seeking refuge in UN compounds.
On 22 December, WFP began distributions to displaced people in the two UNMISS compounds in Juba and the UNMISS compound in Bentiu. The distribution was completed at one UNMISS compound in Juba (UN House) and at the UNMISS compound in Bentiu. Distributions continued at UNMISS Tomping in Juba through 27 December, and is ongoing.
In addition to the relocation of 860 humanitarian workers since 19 December, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) will also provide a two-week temporary air service between Juba and Nairobi from 30 December in order to continue supporting humanitarian requirements during this time.
