With the security situation deteriorating and the direct threat against the Chadian Migrants increasing, the Chadian Government has decided to evacuate its citizens who wish to leave the Central African Republic (CAR).
Circa 1,000 Chadian Migrants, mainly women and children have so far been evacuated by 10 Government organized flights. As per the Government, the evacuation that started on 21st December will continue till the last Chadian Migrant who wishes to leave CAR has been evacuated. Chad is one of the six countries that border CAR that hosts hundreds of thousands of Chadian Migrants that might be affected by the ongoing crisis.
As per the evacuated Migrants, these are only those Migrants who succeeded to seek refuge in the Bangui International Airport. One of the evacuated Migrants died on the plane due to injuries. Many others did not make it to the airport as they were killed by gunmen on their way.
At the Government request, IOM is providing Emergency Humanitarian Assistance to the repatriated Migrants, including registration, profiling, Food, Non Food Items, and Health Care in two Transit Centers in N'Djamena prior to organizing their transportation to their locations of origin in the country.
