SIRBA (20 Dec .) - Pupils of Kondobe basic school in Sirba locality, West Darfur have to halt their school year if no new classroom is built to replace the first one, which got destroyed.

One of the teachers told Radio Dabanga that first and sixth graders, totalling 236 students, are also suffering from the intensity of cold. “It makes it difficult for them to continue their study, also because the first graders are studying under the shade of trees and the sixth graders’ class was destroyed.”

The school administration has decided that they are obliged to give the students a holiday from the study until the end of the cold season, in case the officials do not interfere to build a classroom this week.

On Thursday, the residents of Kalma camp in South Darfur have requested the international organisations working in the camp to provide them with tarpaulin covers, blankets, and warm clothing, especially for school students. "Else, the schools should be closed until the end of the cold period," the spokesperson for the Association of the Displaced Persons and Refugees of Darfur, told Radio Dabanga.
