(Dec. 13, 2013) - A steamer carrying a consignment of 20,000 bags of sorghum donated by Sudan to flood victims in South Sudan arrived at Renk Port in Upper Nile state on Friday.
The Director of River Transport in Renk, Daniel Michael Reath, said the steamer had a smooth journey and will arrive at its final destination in Malakal on Saturday.
“The steamer carrying five basins has arrived Renk yesterday at 3 p.m. bringing 20,000 bags of sorghum from the Sudanese Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to floods victims in South Sudan. Its final destination is Malakal town. The steamer was stopped in check points in Jabellein and some other points,” he said.
River traffic between the two countries stopped for two years after South Sudan gained independence.
