Refugees Face Fuel and Shelter Shortages
PHOENIX (December 5, 2013) –In partnership with Integral Alliance, Food for the Hungry (FH) is helping some of the 6 million displaced Syrians by providing fuel, bedding, rent and other non-food items to help get refugees through the freezing winter temperatures.
Many Syrians are living in flimsy, plastic tents and facing severe shortages of cooking fuel and heating fuel. Syrians fleeing into Lebanon and other surrounding countries with very few supplies lack appropriate winter clothing. Unable to earn income, refugees are extremely vulnerable and needing food and shelter. “With winter setting in, Syrian refugees are facing increasingly difficult conditions. I shudder when I think of the young families I met who were struggling to get food and clean water in the summer and are now also desperately trying to keep their children and even newborns protected from the snow and cold while living in flimsy tents and shelters,” said Peter Howard, FH Director of Emergency Response.
Through local partners, FH is also supporting food distributions in Syria for those who have fled the fighting. Through church partnerships, FH is helping to minister to Syrians who need spiritual and emotional support as they face the loss of their homes and restarting their lives in foreign countries.
