Highlights
Staple cereal prices in Pakistan continued to rise in September, continuing the trend seen for the last few months. This is in contrast to the decline in wheat prices in major international markets.
Headline CPI increased by 7.4 percent on a year‐on‐year (YoY) basis in September 2013, compared to 8.5 percent in the previous month. The CPI for food increased by 7.9 on YoY while it decreased by 1.5 percent on Month‐on‐Month (MoM).
As per estimates in September, world wheat production was likely to increase by 7.5 percent compared to previous year and world wheat stocks were projected to increase by 8 percent.
