CHF 199,421 has been allocated from the IFRC’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the Egyptian Red Crescent in delivering immediate assistance to some 3000 beneficiaries. Unearmarked funds to repay DREF are encouraged.
Summary:
As several protests and violence erupted in Egypt on Wednesday 14 August, 2013 following the ousting of President Mohamed Morsi; the escalations led to the killing of more than 638 people and injuring hundreds of civilians. The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) is scaling-up the emergency health activities in several cities around the country (mainly in Cairo, Alexandria, Port-Said).
The present DREF operation aims to support ERC activities in providing resources for the teams working in difficult situations to enable them to support the most vulnerable population affected specifically by this civil unrest.
This operation is expected to be implemented over a period up to 4 months, and will therefore be completed by 17 December, 2013; a Final Report will be made available three months after the end of the operation (i.e. 17 March, 2014).
