Philippines: NDRRMC Update Effects of Continous Rain due to Low Pressure Area Embedded Along Intertropical Convergence Zone, 7 August 2013

Several weather disturbances affected the Philippines within the month of July till August. The Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) were embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting several regions in the country. The affected regions experienced light to heavy rainfalls which caused floodings and landslides.

A. EFFECTS

  1. Incidents Monitored

As of 07 August 2013, a total of thirty-one (31) incidents were monitored: 19 floodings, 6 landslides 4 drowning incident, 1 Strong Winds/ Wave Surges and 1 whirlwind in Regions IV-A, IV-B, VI. VII, IX, X, XII and ARMM,

  1. Affected Population

To date, 99,762 families / 498,772 persons were affected by the weather systems.

  1. Casualties

From the previously reported number of casualties, to date, a total of thirty (30) casualties were reported as a result of the continuous rains - eight (8) were reported dead. one (1) missing and twenty-one (21) were injured.
