Compensation will be paid to family members of those who were killed and were injured in the Weliveriya incident on a directive of the President.
Three died in this debacle while another group was injured. President Rajapaksa has issued instructions to the related authorities to pay compensation to family members on behalf of the dead and those who were injured in the incident.
Inquiries are in progress in relation to the incident also at the behest of the President. The Police are holding a separate inquiry while the Army is also conducting another inquiry. Hospital sources said that many of the injured have been discharged after receiving treatment.
